About Ruby 

Ms. Ruby Shah is a Registered Social Worker, provider of Psychotherapy, and a Certified Capacity Assessor, with more than 20 years of clinical work experience in mental health settings. In addition to Ruby Shah Counselling private practice, she is also on staff in Mental Health at a community hospital. She is listed on the Capacity Assessor Roster at the Capacity Assessment Office in Toronto. 

She has worked with clients in clinical, medical, and mental health settings at various hospitals and clinics in the GTA. In addition to English, she is fluent in Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu. She works with children, adolescents, and adults. Ms. Shah has additional training in Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).

Ms. Shah is a Capacity Assessor under Ontario's Substitute Decisions Act, 1992 authorized to perform assessments of mental capacity for personal care and financial decision-making. As part of her clinical practice, she also conducts assessments of other forms of legal capacity, where an opinion of capacity is needed to facilitate a legal proceeding, or when the validity of a particular action or decision that the peson made is in question because of possible incapacity.

Ms. Shah is thorough and comfortable in conducting psychosocial assessments, providing individual and family therapy, psychoeducation around medical issues, information on self-care, and providing information on supports and resources in the community. She works from a strengths based framework of empowerment and uses principles of solution focused brief therapy, narrative therapy, and cognitive behaviour therapy.
