Making the decision to look into counselling or therapy can sometimes feel uncomfortable and intimidating at times. Finding the right counsellor or therapist can be challenging. It's important to find a therapist with whom you feel comfortable with and can trust.
An idea of what you can expect when you meet with Ms. Shah:
-Together with Ms. Shah you will define the problem: assess your current situation and challenges you're facing.
-Together you will brainstorm and examine the changes you would like to make.
-Together you will establish goals and clarify an intervention plan.
-Together you will assess your strengths and talents that will support the changes (from strength-based and client-centered perspectives).
I assess and treat clients from many perspectives, to open possibilities, and choices. I work from a strengths based framework of empowerment and use principles of solution focused brief therapy, narrative therapy and cognitive behaviour therapy. I seek to understand and reflect each client’s story within the context of their unique environment, strengths, and resources to support their "process of change" through empowerment and a respectful client-centered approach.
